What is LPR  and ANPR ?

LPR (License Plate Recognition) as it is referred to here in the U.S., and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) as it is referred to in Europe, is a mass surveillance method that uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on images to read vehicle license plates. This method of recognizing License Plates is utilized by LeoPaRd LPR for parking control, automatic gate access, vehicle logging of entries and exits, and very soon, stolen vehicle notification.

The LeoPaRd software system runs on standard Windows computer hardware and is linked to our parking control databases by using a series of image manipulation techniques to detect, normalize and enhance the image of a license plate, and then optical character recognition (OCR) to extract the alphanumerics of the license plate.

When our LPR system is used in conjuntion with our geofencing system, our system will automatically detect which property a vehicle is at, then runs the license plate information against our database to detect if that particular vehicle belongs on a particular property, if it has a valid parking permit, and to determine how long a vehicle has been in a particular space.
